Mind Machine

This is one of the first sets I’ve done in a good while that ended up techno from start to finish. The faster start is a mish-mash of sub-genres, but it flows with a sense of dub as the undercurrent. A mind-melting Demdike Stare track winds down the first part, setting a middle-range tempo for the second part, which eventually fires up a dark dancefloor. -David

Dave takes us for a guided tour through dusky soft shadows and nighttime machines, leading into more relaxed territory before revisiting those chunky Chicago roots. New dubstep/techno genre-crossing sounds blended with their forerunners round out the meander. Too many great new cuts to mention all of them, but Stereociti lays down a thick, clean groove with Drexciyan flourishes, Joy Orbison offers you a rainbow-colored glowstick, and DJ Sprinkles goes beyond deep.

With the controls of the Sonic Sunset space-time cruiser set on “random”, Dave pilots through retro-future analog visions, emerging out onto As One’s lush, blue-skied terrain.  Our cruising velocity throttles only slightly, guiding the ship into Plant43’s landing electro-bass, followed by a moody take-off that smoothly banks left into the evening stars.  Cool strings from Strictly Rhythm circa 1991, Aroy Dee’s abstract jack coolness with Peel Seamus, and advanced hybrid sounds from Martyn anchor the journey!

Part 1 > A mood flows from disco to dub via deep house and detroit techno, the soundtrack to a suspended nightfall. Drive thru a babylon takeover on the slow but mighty deep.

Part 2 > Dave runs a static-saturated descent from what Basic Channel hath wrought into a synth-soaked thread that unravels quickly into several Detroit-infused filaments. From there, a slow, smooth burn evolves that has its place both in starlit streets and sunlit windows.
