Grey Sky Cracks

berlin

With the controls of the Sonic Sunset space-time cruiser set on “random”, Dave pilots through retro-future analog visions, emerging out onto As One’s lush, blue-skied terrain.  Our cruising velocity throttles only slightly, guiding the ship into Plant43’s landing electro-bass, followed by a moody take-off that smoothly banks left into the evening stars.  Cool strings from Strictly Rhythm circa 1991, Aroy Dee’s abstract jack coolness with Peel Seamus, and advanced hybrid sounds from Martyn anchor the journey!

Love the moody Detroit/UK early 90’s vibe. The weather here was overcast then the sun came out just as B12 came on. Perfect!

This mix was gorgeous, love the breakbeat/2-step malarky in the middle, goes from nice and dark to really quite chilled and uplifting (around 43mins!) without being melancholic. Love it. Inspired me to dig back through the archives actually, and I came across your mix from the 11th August ’06! That’s another beautiful mix, almost orchestal in parts. Your mixes are so dusky it’s fantastic. Can’t wait for more, I’m sooo glad you keep putting them out there for us, we’re v.lucky.
    Cheers.

Thanks for the high praise, 5&3! I really appreciate it – it keeps us doing what we’re doing. I like the “dusky” adjective – fits well with the Sonic Sunset overarching theme 🙂 We’re both overdue for mixes – stay in touch!

        Dave,
Thanks for all the years of music! I don’t know if the music can save us, but it certainly has had a positive impact on my life. Sonic Sunset has made many a discordant year in my recent past survivable (living in Atlanta).

Thanks for introducing me to Detroit, Basic Channel, Kirk DeGeorgio, Jack Traxx, Golden Girls (kinetic), etc etc etc infinitum… You’ve managed to pass down a ton of forgotten music to a younger (20 something) generation.

Be sure to check out “siska 2009” on my myspace page if you didn’t catch it.

Here is my most recent mix:
