Classic Blackbyrds and warm keys from a Style Council instrumental greet a 80’s Prep Detroit jam. Stellar deepness from James Duncan (forthcoming on Real Soon), while live strings from Kelley Polar Quartet greet Berlin’s Basic Channel in house mode and fogs out the room.

Part 2 > jerky techno-house from herbert and kemetic just leads up to a mixture of slower chunky industrial-tinged sounds, featuring disco r.e.m.i.x. action from rams horn and an emotive b12-ish cut from future beat alliance. an extended play of vladislav delay’s chain reaction debut smooths out into new hypnotones from detroit’s omar s, supported on the low-end with some deepchord dub.

Part 1 > Quick holiday psychedelic soul then an ode to all things Friday Night. Live funk percussion mixes as Faze-O hits soaring spacefunk and Jackson 5ive’s drummy breaks pick up tempo. Arpeggiated boogie from Coco Du Jour and Johnson Products’ simple-yet-irrestible grooves push it along to a poppin’ italo cover of Tequila. Ends tag-team w/ moody chicago house classics including Mike Dunn’s anthem ‘Magic Feet’.

Part 2 > the tagteam fun continues with windy city acid from armando/armani, then stays close to the heart of chicago with early efforts from symbols & instruments, joshua, and ron trent, and a hard-edged mr. fingers. some cool uk obscurities follow, and deep dub techno from germany’s basic channel collective rounds out the set, with new music from the echocord label in the mix.

Part 1 > A Sept. 2003 in-studio guest mix from BMG (Ectomorph / Dirty Criminals / Interdimensional Transmissions), who drops a genre-spanning and very fresh Ableton Live DJ set… mixing roots and influences along side modern elektronik sounds. This is most definitely one for the heads.

Part 2 > Matt interviews Brendan (never shy in the words dept.) as they banter on about past influences, from Detroit to Ann Arbor to NYC to Berlin sounds and beyond, the power of radio for the underground, and future thoughts on global electronic dance music. Part 1 > midtempo gradual wind-up w/ Larry Levan’s NYC Peech Boys oddity mixed into a Hall & Oates ultra-deep drumbox groove. MARRS b-side that is my favorite 4 minutes in 4AD label history. Laid back italo extends the groove until New Order’s Ecstacy turns a corner to electro from Carl Finlow to Kraftwerk, rare UR plus a breakers cut from Hashim.

Part 2 > take I-94 from Chicago to Detroit (via Carl Craig remixing Ron Trent’s anthem) where Dan Bell and Rob Hood bring minimal funk. Natural direct-drive rhythms from Mills as Purpose Maker keep up room pressure. New music from Berlin’s Dieb: very dark abstract funk on new techno label from Rome. A pensive wind-down from Dutch duo The Connection Machine: their full-length release finally sees daylight (via DownLow), following their now legendary EP on Planet E over a decade ago.
