Distant Lights

calder-montreal

Dave starts the night with a sunset of hazy feedback, a cluster of scintillating Chain Reaction chords, and then onward into the starry skyway.  This set was recorded live at Chicago’s Empty Bottle in May of 2007, opening for Berlin’s Monolake, and was performed using Ableton‘s Live software.

    Great mix as always…

How are you getting on with Ableton for DJ stuff? I’m using the Xponent and Torq which with the new software (1.5) is really great now (latest mix & podcast at http://redeye-blog.blogspot.com/index.html)

As a side note – in Safari writing this comment, the font is so tiny it’s barely readable…

thanks for the feedback – gotta check out the safari issue.

this mix was my first attempt at using ableton to dj; i got the gist of warping tracks a few weeks before the show, and spent most of my time encoding & warping. it’s a ton of fun to use when putting the set together (except the warping, which gets tedious), and it’s also a lot of fun to use when performing, which i did with an external controller (an evolution uc-33). have to say, though, that the torq xponent looks pretty fun 🙂

Kind of late, but is there any place to purchase the first track by My Bloody Valentine? Been looking everywhere but all I’ve found was the original.

The MBV mix was a homebrew homage derived from the last 30 seconds of “To Here Knows When” from the Tremolo EP. (The version of “To Here Knows When” from the Loveless LP doesn’t have that bit.)
