Broadcast on the eve of the Kraftwerk tour stop in Chicago, Matt hosts a full career retrospective of their work. Agruably the most forward-thinking and influential pioneers in synthesized electro-pop music, the four composers working from Dusseldorf, Germany have had their music famously described as \”so stiff it’s funky.\” Kraftwerk created sonic blueprints and themes that paved the way for early Hip-Hop, House and Techno to follow in their robotic footsteps. Part 2: crisp rhythms from argentina’s zensible label collide with herbert’s deep dark world, and drop off into an oscillating ocean glittering in the moonlight, courtesy of heiko laux. the texture gets a level or two darker with beautifully subdued downtempo from pub, and comes back to the light with densely melodic dancefloor moves from holland’s duplex.

Part 1: Deeper crate diggin this week, back to some proper soul and spaced out jazz-funk, tracing it’s way to early-era house. New, forthcoming music on Unclassics: a beautifully sublime dub mix by Morgan Geist of an old discovery by Victor, he distills italo down to its irrestible beats and melodies that recall the deep, warm grooves of classic Chicago house.

Part 2: a slow, lush wash from chicago’s damon lamar (baby pop) fades into more dsp-ed action from adam johnson, then into downbeat electronics, including classic sci-fi autechre. then we go midtempo with new chugging bass-heavy waves from arctic hospital, and some old school chicago business in the mix, ending with some faster-moving dark melodics from the uk, detroit, and nyc.
